May I Present: The Dining Room Reveal

 PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

-----------------------------------------------------------------

You guys have all been so patient, putting up with all my teasers (trying to buy myself time), and encouraging me with threatening emails supportive comments....I decided to go ahead and show you the 99.9% finished room and put an end to the suspense.  Now before we get to the eye candy, let me remind you what this 10X12 room looked like when we first saw the house...not a lot here to work with, let me tell ya.
Maybe I shoulda kept the dusty plastic ivy?

Alright, enough of that.
READY???  Can you see it?

Ah....at long last. Enjoy the tour!

Keepin' it real:  The back wall that's awaiting it's adornment.

And this little corner will be getting a new wood file cabinet (which will be shabbi-fied)  and hooks for boys' bookbags as we use this room mainly for homework and study.

As soon as that last big wall project is done (hopefully by the Gorilla Glue Party at Shanty 2 Chic on Thursday) I'll post a pic, as well as when I get the boys' little corner done.  I'm sure I'll be adding things, changing things, moving around the furniture.  That's what I do, ya know. Can't help myself.

Let me know if you have any questions about how I did something or whatever.  I'll focus in on most of the individual projects, my thought processes and what changed as I moved from project to project, the frustrations and challenges, and all that kinda stuff coming up in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.  Knowing I had a bit of an audience really pushed me to do my very best and see it thru to the (almost) end.  As I was editing the pics and getting them posted, I was surprised by how much of it was done with repurposing secondhand stuff, thrifty finds, crafty projects, stolen inspiration from other awesome bloggers, some ingenuity, and just plain hard work.  It doesn't look like a furniture store with matchy-matchy stuff, an upscale lake cottage staged by a professional, nor a fancy magazine layout....it looks like me, with stuff I love to see and play with.  It looks like MY room.  So much of ME went into this room, and I'm happy with the result (as happy as a perfectionist decorator can be).
I hope you all find some inspiration you can take with you.

This post will be partying it up at the following places:
Soft Place to Land: DIY Day
Faded Charm: White Wednesday
The Shabby Chic Cottage: Transformation Thursday
My Romantic Home: Show and Tell Friday
Funky Junk Interiors: Saturday Nite Special

EDITED:  Added this bad boy to the Thrifty Decor Chick's Before and After Party 03/10

It's SO PRETTY! You have done an amazing transformation!!! So soft and peaceful now. A perfect little room to study in. I love the sheer curtained window with white dresser in front. I would never think to do that either. Looks fabulous! And the empty wall, I like empty. The Beach Cottage is a perfect place for inspiration for beauty in empty walls.

I absolutely adored this transformation! It so charming and inviting. This is a room I would love to hang out it. I especially love the plate rack with all the birds.
I love it all, and I do think it looks "magazine ready"!

I think you are wrong though. The room does look like a fancy magazine layout! It is absolutely gorgeous! I am soooo glad that you didn't ask for everyone to post what is their fav part, cause I would be dumbfounded. I love everything! Your chairs look amazing! It's hard to beleive that is the same 17.00 hutch. I would have passed that by without a second look! Now, I want it! I can't even imagine what you have in mind for the wall, but I can't wait to see!

Stunning. In every way possible. Peace is the perfect sign to put in that room!

Love how the whites dance against the dark woods. And you've managed to create a WARM white room, and that is not so easy to accomplish!

Another thing I love is how you didn't find it necessary to box the room in with big furniture. I LOVE how you divided your furnishings up like that! Makes the room appear so much larger.

(busy scribbling notes here...)

I rate this one an A+!!

P.S. I'm totally missing the dusty plastic ivy... will it return??? :)

I've got one word for your dining room - WOW! I'm slowly but surely going over to the neutral colors in my home. Did you see my dining room in a prior post? I love the contrast of light and dark. My sunroom is going to get a makeover soon, just as soon as I can decide on a wall color, and it will be lots of neutrals and a revamped sideboard.

Hugs!

Hi Cindy, Great job, a beautiful transformation! Being real is the most important thing in decorating. I got sucked into the "having to make fast decisions" when we bought our house. It took me several years and a lot of contemplation to find "ME" in all of it!
