Family Room Primping...for a special guest.

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Can you guess who?

Yes indeedy.
Miss Coop Keeper herself is heading my way this evening.
Just what I needed to get my butt in gear and finish off some projects for the family room.
I can't cook or clean like Jayme, but by golly I can decorate.
So's I did.

Walkin' in from the hall, here's the view:
I love to add little touches like gigantic extension cords.
They add such a homey touch.

I'll blather on about this entertainment center in another post.  I did another how-to video on glazing.
I'll be editing it until my grandkids are in college, but I promise it *will* get posted.

By the way, figuring out what to hang on a wall is so hard for me.
I finally broke down and traced patterns on newsprint paper like I did for my hallway mirror collage.
Took more time, but saved me from a frustration-induced migraine.

Anyway, would you like me to tell you about what I'm satisfied with,
or what I'm already thinking about changing?
I like how I'm finally mingling blues and browns between these two rooms.
I don't like my wimpy curtain rod.  Or that my curtains are too short.
Must remedy asap.

Moving toward the right, you can see I changed up my mantle a bit since my first FALL-ISH-NESS POST.  I'll give some close ups in a post I'm working on for Donna's shutter themed SNS this weekend.
You'll notice  I FINALLY painted the brassy gold with heat resistant black.

Before we get too far, I wanted to show you the Ethan Alan side table I sanded, painted and distressed....

You can see it in its Before clothes HERE.  I haven't sealed it yet because
I'm debating about whether to glaze or not.
I'm leaning towards not.
No, not snot, not.

Now we're getting a peak of my new-to-me lazyboy sectional (doesn't recline, dang).
Picked it up at my favorite secondhand furniture shop for under $400.
The color is great, but the chenille is pilly,
so I want to make a khaki slipcover for it this winter and add some spa blue pillows
to blend with those floral shams I made ages ago.

How'd I do filling the space above this part of the sectional?
I'm still planning to add some black scrolly pillar holders on either side.
I want to get some of those battery-operated candles so I don't catch my head on fire.

You can see these awesome beadboard doors in their Before clothes HERE

I just did my drunk person technique putting the paint on in random stripes,
then sanded 'em down real good-like.
Sometimes it's fun to pretend you're a redneck.

Moving back around to where we came in (doorway is to the right just out of the pic).
I painted the white and blue frames.  The white drysink belonged to my gramma.
I loves it. 'Specially with my yellow light tree leg in front of it.

I dry brushed the barn wood star  (gotta scroll down that post to see its Before) using a bit of left over blue from the TV dresser....you saw his big brother at the beginning.
Remember?

Clipped some florals on the frame wire over my white drysink.
Wanted to use some vintage Halloween prints, but didn't have time....
Can't wait to hang some vintage Christmas prints soon!

I did have time to print off a monogram to fit this wee dollar store frame I painted, though.

Made some changes to my kitchen hutch too since you last saw it....(again, scroll down in that post to see it) Painted the back the same as the wall color.
But I'm thinking I might go back to a warm brown after the holidays.
Sheesh....maybe I should just fit some fabric wrapped foam board back there since I change me mind so many dang times....Skirt needs some hemming yet too.
Shhhh.

Lookin' in from the kitchen nook. See my my DIY hanging wreath trio?  Sah-weet.
Still deciding if the railing will come out when we get new floors for the kitchen.
That would be sometime in the next 10 years.....

One last view looking in from the nook.
My coffee table was an antique writing table from the 1700's.
It was awkward to sit at, and the finish was pretty bad.
I didn't know it's worth when my mom gave it to me.....
until I had hubs cut off the legs and I painted and beat the heck out of it.
Ooops.
But better a functional piece than something that's unusable, even if it's worth $$$.
Even my mom loves it now.

Can't wait to get those beams and cottage cheese off the ceiling next month.
And wrap the upper fireplace in white paneling to match the rest of the room.
And find some chippy corbels for under the mantle.
And...and...and.....

PS...Partying at the awesome places listed HERE!

It looks positively wonderful! I just want you to be aware (since I get migraines) about respiratory problems/headaches when we had the popcorn ceiling taken down from our bathrooms. Just warning you. I'm so glad she's coming! You always make me laugh. Now you can laugh. I sort of speed read the post titles. I thought it said "pimping instead of primping!"

I had so much fun touring your house. I loved your post. I laughed too at the funny things you wrote. I think your beams are cool and different, but I am sure whatever changes you do will be great. I really like the close up photo of the cabinet doors on the wall. It is awesome.

Every time I look in any room of my hosue I make a mental note of all things that I hate, that bother me, that annoy me, or that I want/need to change asap. It's an illness!

Your rooms look lovely even though you have things that you want to change, too. :)

Ooops, I meant "house" not "hosue".

I love those cabinet doors. I was to slow at the Restore and missed out on some. Still ticked about that. I can't wait to see what you do with the fireplace. I would love to change up mine. I can't convince hubby to paint it so maybe cover some of it up.

Cindy,

Loving your changes! The fireplace looks great. Love how you have the little floral (soon to be changed to vintage Christmas) cards clipped onto the wire above the dry sink. You really have an eye for details. I'll be looking at this again and again. Thanks for the inspiration.

Cindy- You did such a great job on everything. I love the Ethan Allen side table. I remember that from when you first posted it. You have sure been on a streak. I can't believe that Jayme is coming to visit you. Did you know each other prior to blogland? She is one of my favorite blogs---cuz she is just a tad crazy so I feel right at home with her "out there" humor. You gals will have a ball, I'm sure. I am SOOOO jealous! Hugs- Diana

Wow - Beautiful!!

I have a question - You mentioned your cottage cheese ceilings. We have those too. I am tired of them! How are you getting rid of them? Is it difficult/expensive to do?

Thanks!

I am so lovin' this look! That coffee table is so awesome. I think my favorite are the beaded doors. The room just feels cozy and relaxed yet put together too. Sort of like......Oprah! (No, I did not just say your living room was like Oprah. You just misread that.)

Great and fun post! Nothing like company to get you motivated!

You have been one busy lady !! I love everything that you've done. What a great idea to cut the legs down on the writing desk and turning it into a coffee table! The best of luck removing the popcorn ceiling ... a very ambitious project, and I can't wait to see the results! Thanks for sharing your beautiful spaces. *Becca*

There are so many things I love in that room.....the brown floral fabric, the botanical prints, and that shade of blue. And don't touch that Ethan Allen table anymore. That's the prettiest thing!

Catching up on reading some blog posts, so glad I came across this one. I LOVE how you decorate and the things you painted are awesome! I would never have thought of putting the beadboard doors on a shelf, they look like they totally belong there. Love how you turned the desk into your coffee table. I 'cheated' and bought a new coffee table and side tables because I wanted ones with a shelf underneath. I got white so I can distress them. I'll be broke forever while paying them off but doing without some extras such as being able to eat will be well worth it. ;-D
I love the chair next to the Ethan Allen table, I need to find a 'new' sofa and chair and this time I want ones without T-cushions because it's easier to find slipcovers for them. The secondhand ones I have were given to me and my cats have 'distressed' them a bit too much.
Oh, and I love how you created your entertainment center. I really need to visit your blog posts more regularly, you have lots of great ideas I could 'borrow'. Thanks for sharing. Sue 8-)
