Little Blue Desk Gets Her Groove On.

Yep, it's a she.  This little piece began as a darkly stained and beat up old thing in the back of a furniture consignment shop.  My daughter-in-law was looking for something to paint and use as a display for her college senior project.  So we picked 'er up and got to work.

Her first incarnation was a distressed mod vintage pure white with peachy orange accents (to go with the design she had come up with....she's a graphic designer after all...)  She had made collages, had fabric printed, made wee buttons.....anyway it all looked fab, and she of course won first place. :)

After a year or so, I bought the piece from her as they were moving.  Cute as the peach and white were, and oh so mod and trendy too, it just didn't go with a.thing.in.my.house.  So I gave her another paint job.  This time I used my oops mistint grey blue.  I recovered the seat and added more of that fabric to the drawer bottoms with mod podge.  She was such a good girl, holding really still while I painted her corners and such.

I've had this fabric forevah.  In fact, I tried to recover some dining chairs with it once.  Fail.  I was pretty ticked, so it got stuffed into the black hole that is my cra(p)ft room.  Whilst shoveling out gently flipping thru my fabric stash, it came tumbling out screaming "hey!  give me another chance!"  And bob's my uncle.  Perfect match.

Because the mistint is a flat finish, I added some Polycrylic to it, hoping I wouldn't need to do a sealing finishing coat.  It did help, but not so much that I could skip a couple coats of plain polycrylic at the end.  I actually put 4 coats on top, since it will be a writing surface, and items will be shuffled around a lot.  See the pretties?  I was just fiddling to take a pic for the blog :)

Pencils from Michaels dollar section....Laura Ashley I believe.

One of my favorite pictures of 5 of my 6 kids at the beach 5 years ago...time flies I tell ya. The gal on the far right went and got herself married last year.  (And yeah, her colors were (surprise) blue and brown.)

So the desk set sorta matches my house now.  But I don't have a place for it.  Just like my Distressed Dresser.  So both went on craigslist this morning, along with my Shabby wall shelf.  I hated to do it, but I need the space....and a bit of spending money never hurt anyone with a thrifting addiction such as mine.  Rrrrright.

Any locals (NE Indiana) interested?  Email me by tagging that weirdo woman in the birdcage on my sidebar.

And lest you think I've forgotten (you haven't have you?),  this post full of blue and brown goodness reminds me to harp at you encourage you to get your projects ready for:

I'm totally counting on you to inspire me with all things blue and brown.  Rooms, furniture, curtains, slipcovers. Even crafts.  Even outfits.  Maybe not blue and brown animals, though.  That'd be creepy.  I've had enough creepy lately.

The desk looks fabulous. I don't know how you can part with it (or the dresser)! Once I put so much time and effort into something it's like another child to me :)
So I saw the info. for The Great Blue and Brown....now I need to go create something to fit in.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh so sad-selling your dear children on Craig's List...and one of them being a girla nd all..

I love what you did with that desk. Dare I tell you that I had some of tha same fabric? I think I finally gave it to one of my girls. I THINK I had that in the 90's sometime...and you know..I still love that fabric! I used it for the same thing you did-covering some chair seats...but I love the idea of it lining the drawers too.

Nice post- Okay- Bye Now...Diana ;>)
