So I've popped in to show you what Bogart the big black dog found camping in our backyard:
Why yes. He is a dinosaur. In a kooky-kinda-prehistoric-knarlyskinned-way. I've named him Fred. The kids have other ideas. We stuck him in a mud puddle in the middle of our
He has tremendouly bad breath*, and pretty much smells. But in a nature-inspired way. Yeah. Fred scared the dickens out of Bogart when he got too close to inspect. Now my poor cowardly dog won't even go outside. Ain't no way he's sharing a backyard with this reptilian tyrant.
Hubby risked life and limb so I could get really close for this one. Notice Fred refuses to close his mouth....I guess he figured if snapping won't scare us, his TBB* will. And it did.
I shot some video with my mad filming skillz. You simply must watch it. It will give you *such* an intimate understanding of how our family relates to each other in new circumstances. *snicker* My hubby schools us on all things turtle while my 16 year old daughter Grace is absolutely giddy and never stops talking and giggling about the discovery. She cracks me up. I, of course, provide the sarcasm. Enjoy.
Why yes. It really doesn't take much to entertain my family.
That is hilarious Cindy, I am so glad you decided to share! Welcome back...
Such a crazy story, how did it even get there?? Poor doggy-dog though, he'll be traumatized for the rest of his life, haha
Well thank god that a kooky incident got the crazy lady out of the no blogger closet! I have missed you so and thought of you often. Hopefully Bogart is not too scaredy cat to go in the yard. Mine would be. 120 lbs of stupidity would be shaking in her boots, that is if Great Dane's wore boots.
love the digital age... prehistoric turtle makes his debut on you tube! :) Thanks so much for sharing these hilarious clips with us!
I never knew turtles could have such a long tail! lol... you guys crack me up. Are you going to let Grace keep him?? haha, in your big tupperware, no doubt?
OHhhhhh myyyy..... too funny
he sure isn't sweet and cuddly..lol
He kind of looks like a snapping turtle-I think they can bite, not really sure. So glad you shared with us! Maybe Bogart knows something we don't?
LOL!! Coolest find I've ever seen in a long time. :)
Welcome back! Even if for a momento...
I'm also thinking snapping turtle, and yes they will bite. Watch your fingers.
I thought Fred was a great name! Are you gonna keep him?
Great photos of Fred. I'd say he's a snapping turtle for sure and it looks as though he had something to say! LOL.
funny post with great photos.
That is hilarious. What an unusual and surprising discovery.OUr dog would have tried to play with it. And then drag it into the house...
The only things that we ever find around here are snakes and lizards. But one time we did find 3 horses eating our front lawn. They had escaped from their corrals down the street from us. Not prehistoric, but surprising! I love the video and the interaction between you all. Fun!
Heidi - Heart and Home
Looks like a snapper. They can be very nasty and give one heck of a bite. Be careful with it. He's a carnivore.
We have a lot of turtles in this area and actually have a turtle crossing sign on our road.
I love how your husband stayed so serious and informative while your daughter was so silly - - too funny!! Great post
Are you the turtle whisperer!? I love Chris' personality and your daughter...too funny! Now honey, be very careful, as that is indeed a snappin' turtle, and I have a friend, that has a friend, that lost half a finger I aint'a kiddin' ya. You can't turn your back on those turtles. They will bite you in a flat second.
Too funny! My boys would get such a kick out of Fred!
That is a HUGE turtle! Hopefully, he'll stick around. Can you feed him? I wonder what turtles eat anyway.
i think he is not just a snapper, but an alligator snapping turtle. we would catch them in the lake behind my parents' house growing up. my grandad used to say that if they snapped you they wouldn't let go til it thundered! don't let him snap ya!
This was so cute to watch! My 4 year old loved Fred. :) You will have to update us as to what became of him.

Just want to note that all turtles have incredibly long necks and can easily reach around or back to bite.

Hilarious, Cindy! Well.....did you keep him?!?!?!

Looks like you have yourself a new pet!

How cute is that leeedle guy!? Your video is so funny... Thanks for sharing.
Cool in an ugly-sort of way!
I mentioned you today...and it was nice.
I popped in from Heidi's Heart and Home when I saw your turtle. We found 1 in our yard last year cornered by our beagle that was going nuts barking at the poor guy. lol
hehehehehe..... I loved the videos! "How long is it since he had a bath" HAHAHAHA...... that is too cute :)
Ohh my gosh! I laughed so hard listening to your daughter! She sounds just like my year old (except that we live in Georgia and her accent is totally different). So persistent. So funny. That is a really big turtle. Thanks for the laugh. Have a great day!
Umm. Cindy, your Daughter sounds just like my 14 year old! Must make sure to hit the num lock button! Sorry!

You are hilarious...and that is one ugly reptile...not into them too much...but my grandson would LOVE him.
This is ridiculously funny!
It's the little things in nature that can provide entertainment!
Hi Cindy. I loved the video of Fred, especially the part where your daughter is calling friends to fill them in on the new pet. But I think Fred is a land tortoise which means he does not live in the water. They just drink water and occasionally bathe. And the bubbles and bad breath probably mean he has a respiratory infection. Glad to see your post.
You've put a big smile on my face. I do not want to meet Fred in a dark alley er I mean bog.
Do drop in for a visit!
Funny story! He does look like a dinosaur! Lezlee
Very funny! He is definitely ugly. We have a russian tortoise that's a fraction of the size of your Fred. He's not stinky though!
We just got back from Hilton Head and I too saw those tortoise's roaming around along with some alligators! For us it really was such a treat. Living up north we don't see those except if they live in captivity.
OMG Fred is so big! My dog will bark for hours at the smallest box turtle. I can't imagine what she would do if she crossed paths with Fred ;) Cute video.
that was definitely worth me looking through some of my email. What a bright pick-me-up! thanks
