Dreamin' of a White Christmas (tree)

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Woe's me.

I found a perfect, fluffy little 4 foot white pre-lit tree at my favorite thrift shop the other night while out with hubs and my boys.

Hubs and I had a bit of a disagreement about getting it....he said we didn't have room.
I never see this as a problem.  Ever.

So we playfully went back and forth for a bit, then I decided to let it drop.

  source

It so happened that the sales people working that night were an older couple from our church
(it's a Mennonite Central Committee Dove's Nest Thrift)...

...and I was kinda embarrassed about disagreeing in front of them.

Anyway, later that night I said I really did want that tree 'cause I'd been oogling them on the blogs this year.

Hubs apologized, not knowing how much I really wanted it, and said we could go back and get it.

  But, they had already closed.

No problem, thought I.  I had to be back over there the next day.
You know where this is going, right?

Well, I ended up having to go into jury duty first thing the next morning, then to 2 funeral viewings before I could get back to the thrift.

When I arrived, there it sat in all it's twinkling goodness.

I walked up to the sales lady and said "I'll be taking THAT."

Saleslady says, "Oh, I'm sorry.  It just sold about 10 minutes ago.
The lady is coming back with her van to pick it up."

Ayup.
Now I know it was just a dumb arty-feeshal tree, and it shouldn't have bothered me as much as it did.

But, dear readers, I went out to my car and cried like a baby.

I obviously have WAAAAY too much stress in my life right now.
When a plastic Christmas tree can make me lose it, I know things just ain't right in my life.

So today, I went to every big box and thrift store I could find,
and there was not a single white tree to be had.
 Not a one.

Oh, except for Wally's Place.  But after falling for the full, fluffy wee one at the thrift,
theirs was akin to a skeleton (with a Colts hat on top.)  *sigh*

Online, they are pricey, and not guaranteed for Christmas unless ya shell out for faster shipping.

So, I guess I will just have to enjoy all the other white trees out there in blogland this year,
and hope I can get one next year.

In the meantime, I'm upping my meds.....

Oh, I am so sorry you didn't get it. Hopefully there will be some in the after Christmas sales. I can so relate to all the stress, it is the season for it. Take 2 aspirin and a good hot bath. That may help. Hugs, Marty

Sorry you didn't get it. It is hard to miss out on something you so desire. I have had things like that happen too. Maybe you will find an even better one that is even less money.

Oh, I'm so sorry you didn't get your white tree. I had my fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you'll have one for next year and I can't wait to see how you'll decorate it. Merry Christmas Cindy!

OK, there is a silver lining in all this. You'll get a white tree after Christmas for, like, 50% off! No,there are two silver linings. 50% off, and you get more meds!

I'm sorry you missed it by that II much. Bummer.

Oh darlin. I'm so sorry. I'm just surprised you haven't spray painted your other tree white by now - awfully surprised.

kelly said...

first sorry you missed out on the tree, i hate when that happens but second i have a hard time with christmas for that reason. we get so caught up in everything, baking, presents for everyone, decorating, shipping and on and on. i just want to sit by the lit tree, watch christmas movies and think of the real reason for christmas and all we have to be grateful for!
maybe next year, tell your friends to watch for them again.

Oh I admit I laughed just a little. Not that you missed getting your tree. But I too have cried at the drop of a hat! Many times! I wonder where it comes from sometimes. Stress can do that to you, along with the wonderfully powerful hormones! Hormones are the devil right now for me. I'm 46 and breaking out like I just started puberty. What the heck is that about?

I know you will find your wonderful white tree and it will be fabulous darling, fabulous!! :)

Oh Cindy... you almost made me cry :( I'm so sorry you didn't get it... I totally understand though. I've gotten my heart set before over what others might think is dumb stuff and then find out I really can't have what I want... it can be crushing!

I hope you find one for next year!

AW!! Im sorry! Doesn't that lady know she bought YOUR tree??? ;)

It wasn't meant to be... Maybe because you'll find a bigger better one, or maybe because that one has electrical issues and someone ( a-hem...↑↑↑ ) was just looking out for you!

O, I am so sorry- what a disappointment. You will get a nice white tree one day, I am sure. What about taking a fake tree and spray- painting it all white in the meantime?? Just let it air a bit so it won't be all smelly.I know it won't be the same but it might get you through till you find your dream tree...
Big hug
PS crying gets rid of your stress so don't worry!! - and thanks for sharing this with us!!!!

Well, I totally expected a different ending. That Hooked on Houses dresser looked so much like yours I thought you landed your tree!

And for some reason, you have me wanting a white tree now. Where did that come from?!?

Sorry you didn't land your tree. But my gosh... what an amazing collection you DID find here!

Oh no! I was rooting for you, too. :(

I had a similiar experience with a glitter house. I saw one I really liked at Marshalls and at the time hubby was saying I should be careful with money so I didn't buy it. Then later he said go for it. I went to all the Marshalls store that I could and no glitter house. I checked other nice stores and couldn't find a glitter house that I really loved. Then I saw (on someone's blog) a beautiful pink glitter church that they sold at Target - last year! Arggg.

Poor you! Same thing happened to me the other day. I decided to go to a local vintage store and buy this vintage red deer picture I'd been craving. Well, I went into the cafe side of the store and bought a tea to go first. As I was walking to "my" picture, a woman asked if she could just take it down. WHAT???? Dang. The store owner knew I had come to get it after stalking it for so long, but what could she do? My picture left with someone else. Lesson learned for me.

do you have a Kohls nearby? They are selling smallish ones cheap. maybe 4 ft? if you don't let me know and maybe i could ship you one...

I never thought white trees could be so addicting. Awesome collection.

Because we haven't even decorated... I'm kinda enjoying Christmas through everyone else this year. I really enjoyed this tour, and story. Rats...thought you got it.

I have a aluminum sorry looking little thing you could probably borrow...ha.

One thing my husband and I have discovered, if you see something you REALLY like, get it...as long as you can return it once you come to your senses. :)

Merry Christmas Cindy. I'm coming up there on Monday..to Indiana that is. I hear there is lots of snow already.

Oh, I know how you feel and I'm so sorry you didn't get "your" tree. But maybe you should take another look at the ones from Wally World. That's where I got mine a few years ago. After you add your special ornaments it becomes "your" tree. Here's the link to a picture of my tree on my blog:

Hope you find "the" tree for you!

You're so creative and kind. I'm so lacking in those by the end of many preChristmas days. Spontaneous crying happens often - like last night when UPS told me that my package to Seattle might arrive by the 28th. It. was. packed. last. week. Why couldn't I find time to just get it into town?! Hope you're feelin better. By Jan ist all is forgotten and the Christmas sales will have yielded new treasures. Besides, did you really want another project before the 25th? Thanks for keepin it real and sharin those pretty pics of someone else's *work.*
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Here's a couple of little ideas...just a thought....you could buy a smaller green tree and spray paint it with either "snow" spray paint or white....and yes, you would probably have to lie it down on a drop cloth in the garage and turn it over as you go so as not to get paint everywhere! Or...you could do the same thing to some small ever green branches and stick them in a vase or even in your existing tree to give a little "whiteness"....hugs, Mandy

I cannot count how many times that has happened to me. All I can say is there is something better to come! Love the white trees and might just have to have one myself!

I chuckled a bit when I read this...because the same thing has happened to me before. And now you have me really wanting a white tree. WOW - okay - so next year we get white trees!

Lovely trees! Sorry to see you didn't get yours. But your tree is out there just waiting for you.

I am a totally NOT traditional Christmas type decorator - so a white tree was required many years ago before they were so popular. Everyone thought I was nuts! But, I am with the previous poster - I got mine at Wally World...cringe...I dread that place. But after bringing it home, ditching the plastic tree stand and dropping it in a galvanized bucket and decking it out with red and white candy goodness that first year - it looked MARVELOUS!! And here it is 7 years later and I still love it, just like that first Christmas.

Here's to a less stressed 6 days until Christmas...I think we all could use those Christmas wishes...

OMG you are so totally me! haha I completely understand. You will find your tree and it will be the best yet....everything happens for a reason.

Oh, I'm sorry you've been stressed... but you want to know something kind of funny? Every x-mas we get a live hedge tree of some sort, like a cypress, and we decorate it inside and then after the holiday, we plant it in our yard.

Well. This year the one we got was infested with ants, so I had a moment of utter frustration as I dragged the thing out into the back yard, a highway of ants trekking from the corner of our den all the way to the kitchen sink, and I just went out and bought white x-mas tree.

It was really cheap, it looks a little like a plucked chicken, and hilarious in a Charlie brown sort of way - but I love it. I am sure there's a white tree waiting for you out there, my friend. even if it's not the one you thought was meant for you. And you'll make it look fabulous. I just know.

Merry Chrsitmas, Cindy. I'm sending you a big hug from here.

much love,
-maria

really? Your husband must give permission to purchase a tree?

Next time call ahead and ask them to hold it...I'm sure they would since you know them.

I'm sorry your tree was already gone... and just 10 minutes too late!

Those trees are a lot of fun... after checking all of the pictures out, I think I want one now too! I'm not sure I've seen a white tree anywhere around here. I have the day off of work tomorrow to spend with my daughter (who's here for the week from Toronto) and I'll be on the look out for any white, fluffy trees!
Happy holidays and happy hunting.

oh.. and... those are GORGEOUS trees you showed during your fractured christmas story!
