::Kitchen Scale::

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I love 'em.

But they're not what I'm yakkin' about on this post.

I'm talkin' this:

A wee table done with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Kitchen Scale.

I glazed it with Varthane Dark Walnut Stain.  (brush on a section, wait a minute, wipe it in and off with an old diaper) See?

Here's what she looked like before her new duds...satin spray painted white.

Here's what I used to mix the milk paint...glass jar with plastic lid (found at the Dollar Store...RUN!)  Covered the opening with saran wrap, screwed on the lid and shook that puppy.

First coat.  I was worried at this point.  It's supah thin (I even mixed it 1:1).

This was after one coat.  I felt like I couldn't get it to cover unless I had a lot of paint on the brush, but then it would run and drip and get streaky.  I have no idea if that is normal.

Chippy-ness happening :)

See the streaky?  This is dry.

This was after the second coat and a 220 grit easy sanding over the chippy parts.

One of the reasons I decided to stain it was because I didn't want the white to be such a high contrast to the blue/green paint. This is a pretty good representation of how the color changed after staining.  Top unstained, rest stained.

The top of this table was pretty rough when I spraypainted it last year, so I hoped the milk paint and stain would help magnify that.  Pretty cool, eh?

Below you can see how it kinda dripped.  It did that after I'd moved on to another part and didn't notice how thick I'd put it on.
(And why I started with such a tiny, detailed piece for my first milk paint project is anyone's guess....*rolling eyes*)

I used the Furniture Wax, and not sure I got enough in some places.  This wax game is HARD.  Some places buffed up super nice, others....not so much.  I did do two coats on top for durability, and I have to say I LOVE just brushing it on, wait 5 minutes and buff.

I'm anxious to play some more with the milk paint and wax.  I love how it really compliments the distressing, and I especially love the dimension in color, even before I stained it.

Have you played with Milk Paint?  Do you like Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture wax?

You asked on facebook this morning about blog comments.

I don't comment on every blog post that I read as I'm not sure that I have anything to offer. But, I never comment on the facebook pages of the blog I follow.

I wish I had your patience to paint with the milk paint & wax. I want immediate gratification so I'm content to paint a piece with good ole Benjamin Moore & set it in place.

Happy Monday!
Leslie

It's beautiful, Cindy! I love that color! I understand from other blogs that have used the MMS milk paint that it has that chippiness, which I'm not really into. I'd like to try it if there is a way to not have it get chippy, although I suppose that defeats the purpose of the paint.

It looks fantastic!!!!! I just bought about 4 colors of MMS paint and I'm loving it. I've tried it on a couple of pieces and everything you explained happened to me too. But hey, we are learning - and actually the imperfections is what I absolutely love about this paint. Keep up the awesome work!
