Just when I thought it was safe to stay away....

Life offers a most fantabulous opportunity to post about.

So I've popped in to show you what Bogart the big black dog found camping in our backyard:

Why yes. He is a dinosaur. In a kooky-kinda-prehistoric-knarlyskinned-way. I've named him Fred. The kids have other ideas.  We stuck him in a mud puddle in the middle of our bog backyard, at which time he managed to submerse himself under the mud within about 2 minutes time.  We are currently admiring the bubbles emitting from his barely-there nostrils  submerged just below the surface.

He has tremendouly bad breath*, and pretty much smells.  But in a nature-inspired way.  Yeah.  Fred scared the dickens out of Bogart when he got too close to inspect.  Now my poor cowardly dog won't even go outside.  Ain't no way he's sharing a backyard with this reptilian tyrant.

Hubby risked life and limb so I could get really close for this one.  Notice Fred refuses to close his mouth....I guess he figured if snapping won't scare us, his TBB* will.  And it did.

I shot some video with my mad filming skillz.  You simply must watch it.  It will give you *such* an intimate understanding of how our family relates to each other in new circumstances.  *snicker*  My hubby schools us on all things turtle while my 16 year old daughter Grace is absolutely giddy and never stops talking and giggling about the discovery.  She cracks me up.  I, of course, provide the sarcasm.  Enjoy.

Why yes.  It really doesn't take much to entertain my family.

Needing a little break.

Hello my wonderful bloggy friends.....

I'm in a season of life where my creative pursuits are needed in other areas than my home as the school year winds down, my daughter graduates, and I finish homeschooling Jason.  I also took a part time job at a bookstore to help a friend, so my time to play at home has been severely limited.

Anyway, I've not posted 'cause there's nothing to post!  So sorry 'bout that.   I'm going to take a break here for a bit, til I have some time again to work on the house.  I have some big plans, but they'll need to wait till school's out for the summer.  I'm also dealing with some personal stuff that kinda has me in a tailspin, so I really need to give some attention to myself and my family.  I hope you'll understand.

Make it 4 Monday will return after my break.  I hope to pop on and read up on your blogs as time allows too.  I just won't be posting much, if at all.

Thank you for getting me thru this winter with your sweet comments and support.  I hope to return with renewed inspiration and fun stuff in a few weeks or when life allows me more decorating and blogging time.

peace,
cindy

Make it 4 Monday #20!

Actually, ere's my post for Make if 4 Monday....if MckLinky would stop being a stinker and I could actually get the link list up and running.  Waiting for my new password.  Grrrrr..Hopefully it will be up and running this evening.  I'll make a new post for the party with highlights.

Anyway, I spent the day cleaning and organizing my bedroom, sprucing up some things here and there, so here's my entry for the week:

seafoam blue quilt to replace tan duvet cover...

my bedside area....portrait of me that hung over my daddy's dresser when I was growing up...

hubby's side of the bed....he likes the natural wood of the antique craigslist dresser...

cool and serene....with the shams I made earlier....

Been washed lots o' times, so it's faded and soft....

blues, greens, seafoams, clears...pretty glass bottles, jars and vases over the mirror
above the dresser...

New way to organize my jewelry.  Had these pieces, spraypainted the bottom 'porcelain' by valspar...

I use my gramma's old sewing cabinet to store other jewelry pieces...she painted and antiqued this back in the '60's...

Lotsa compartments that used to hold her threads and bobbins now hold my pretties...

My chroma card from Dressing Your Truth sits on my dresser...I awake to my beautiful tints each morning, and it helps me put together my outfits so my outside matches my inside :).....

My newly organized closet full of happy colors in my chroma....

Every stitch of black clothing and accessories cleaned out and ready for donation...
the huge tub below is full of other clothes not in my chroma.  So great to purge!

So fabulous to get back in touch with the bright little girl in the portrait, who loved to smile and
make others smile too....ever wonder why we don't put children in black clothes often?

Here...have a daisy.  They're the plastic kind that you can't kill.

I love to clean out things from my life that are no longer working.  Even hubs joined in and purged his closet of old ties, slacks, shoes, hats, shirts.....ah.....we're ready to wake each day ready to face what comes our way in an airy, light bedroom with meaningful pictures and pieces, with closets only filled with items we love and wear.  Hurray!  I love when my home makeovers match my personal makeovers :)

Wanna See?

After almost an entire year of avoiding the hair salon, I went last night.  Yes, I did.  I got tons chopped off.  Hoping they can use it at Locks of Love.

So I told the gal I want fun, I want easy, I want light and bouncy....but I want options.  I like to play.

Are ya ready???

Ta da!

I got me some wicked cool highlights, lots of layers, and a lot of movement.....Can't believe the difference in how it feels on my head!  Gosh that sounds rather strange.  Here you can kinda see the highlights better.  This was just sooooo out of my box!

But I really like it.  I'm a pretty animated person, so I'm trying to add that element to my physical appearance.....kinda a foretaste of things to come in my decorating too.

I feel like a new woman!  Or at least like a woman with shorter hair. And highlights.  Yeah.  BTW, all these pics are from my other blog, hense the title in the corners.  And hey, I promise not to keep babbling on about all these changes.  I just love a great makeover whether it's a room, a piece of furniture or a person (or a person's head).

Onward to to house projects!  Totally feelin' it.

Defining yourself, creating your style.

For the last couple weeks I've been on a mission.  This is what I do.  I go on missions.  I get obssessed with my mission.  I drive around making everyone around me bonkers talking about my mission.  Now I'm taking my mission to my blog, so all you loverly folks can join me on my mission and also get annoyed.

Wanna know what it is?  My mission is to create my style.  Your mission, should you choose to take it, it to create YOUR style. (cue music)

Guess what?  I'm already doing lots of things right.  And I'm much better at knowing what isn't working and more importantly WHY.  But I'm not settled yet.  And that's ok.....here's where it gets good.  The sun begins to come out.

I did a profiling course online.   You know about profiling right?  You're something on the Meyer-Briggs, you're a season of the year, you have a love language, you're an animal....

I usually have a hard time knowing what I am, and have shied away from those things. But this one piqued my curiousity, and it's very new and not well known yet.  And I did it to help me understand my decorating style (more so than my personality).  Come to find out my energy profile is bright and animated, airy, random, CRISP, fresh, and most of all FUN!

That would explain why I like so many styles, change things up a lot, use humor, and never get 'settled'.  And that's why it's ok.  I'm all about IDEAS and bouncing from thing to thing....not so great with follow-thru, though, so I let my secondary energy type help balance that.

This particular process also helps identify your 'look' regarding clothes, accessories, hair and makeup that best brings out your natural energy type.  And get this....many of us (especially women) have moved away from our dominant type because as kids in our natural movement, we were told to, for example,  'settle down', or 'lighten up', or 'be stronger', or 'don't be so bossy'.....and so we did.  We generally began moving into our second dominant type (in a dysfunctional way), trying to 'be' that person we were supposed to 'be' so people would like us.

But it hasn't worked.  In the fashion world AND the decorating world, the powers that be cater to only one of the 4 energy types for the most part....so we all try to get on the bandwagon and copy the styles and trends.  Raise your hand if you're kinda over that?  (If you happen to be that energy type, then you prolly don't concern yourself much about fashion and decorating, interestingly enough, because it comes naturally to you.  It's a no-brainer, and there's more important fish to fry.)

So what about the other 3?  We're left feeling like WE are the problem.  Can't wear skinny jeans?  It must be MY problem.  Don't stainless steel appliances?  I must be weird.  Too loud or too shy in a crowd?  I must be broken.  Like natural wood trim?  I'm out of style.  See what I mean?

Don't know about you, but I'm all about finding what works for ME, and could care less if it is 'in style' or 'trendy' or even has a name.  And girls, I've found tons of freedom, had lots of ah-ha moments...and have let myself off the hook.  My house doesn't have to be stylized or dreamy or rugged.....it can be random and fun!  Because that's ME.  My rooms don't need to 'flow' perfectly because I like random (and I want my kids to have room that reflect their unique energy type).

Can I just say what a difference this has made?  Now I can go back thru my ruminating exercises with another piece to the puzzle.  I can better articulate what speaks to me and why.  I can appreciate other styles for what they offer, and can certainly add elements to my rooms (for instance, my bedroom needs to be light and airy and fun, but also have lots of soft, dreamy details, and no hard lines).  And all the members of my clan need to have places in the house that speak to their energy types...what they like.  It's how we balance one another, and how we'll find balance in our decorating pursuits.

So are you curious?

Then you need to pop over the Energy Profiling and start finding out your energy type, and then how it relates to everything and everyone in your world.  If you want to continue into the fashion part of it, you head to Dressing Your Truth.

Her newest book Dressing Your Truth-Discover Your Personal Beauty Profile will be released on Thursday, and you can read all about it HERE.

I showed you the banner I made for my newest blog yesterday....the one with the random collage of brightly colored clothing and accessories.

I'm going to use that to process my journey into expressing my nature as a Type 1 via relationships, dressing, and decorating.   Of course some of this is going to bleed over to this blog, but specifics for each type will be on the other blog...specifically Type 1's, specifically.  K.

It truly has been one of the best gifts I've ever given to myself....It's helping me embrace myself as I am, stop competing with others or trying to be someone else, and lets me accept others as THEY are without expecting them to be like me.  Novel thought.

There's some things in my home I will need to re-do (because now I understand why they aren't working), and I've got some brilliant new direction for some other decorating quandries I've been wrestling with so you can expect lots of projects and makeovers and redos here all summer.  My greatest hope is that as I begin to reintroduce myself to, uh, myself....that will encourage you all to meet yourselves again too.  Discovering who you truly are, were meant to be.....is there anything so beautiful?  Being comfy in your skin, then in your clothes, and in your home?  Wow!  It's possible....it is really honestly possible to live your truth an all aspects of your world.
