Chalkboard a la rustique

Remember this post when I made over some cabinet doors with no middles that I picked up el cheapo at the ReStore?  I also got two other pieces....today you get to see the fabulousness I wreaked on one of those others.  (The third is part of my dining room reveal which I will continue to tease you about until I post it hopefully this week....) Edited: Here's that reveal, and the 'peace' sign shown there was the third piece...it was a drawer front in a former life.

Here's the before, cement crack and all.

And here's the after, poor lighting and all:

Basically spraypainted the white on, sanded the edges, then taped off the white and used chalkboard spraypaint on the insets.  Except it kept crackling in the corners.  So I kept sanding and repainting until I got tired of that song and dance and went with it.

See the 'rustique' part along the edged?  Works for me.  Hangs over my 'puter desk so I can leave myself inspirational messages such as 'do laundry' or 'cook dinner'.  Tomorrow it might say 'eat chocolate', because that is very inspirational to me.

This is an el cheapo and easy craft to make as gifts, so I'm linking it to
Just a Girl's I Can Make That Party!

And don't forget about my little shindig on the 16th...button on my sidebar :o)

Cindy, all of you bloggers who keep doing the spraypaint thing with chalkboard paint are making me really, REALLY want to try my hand at this. Yours is very cute, and I like the fact that it hangs over your desk.

Happy Met Monday!

XO,

Sheila :-)

You did a good job. I am one of the few left in blogland that has not made a chalkboard yet.

Chalkboard paint is a great invention! That looks great and hanging it over your desk is a good way to use it!
