Fireplace progress...

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, just as I am totally wrapped up in painting and re-imagining my fireplace, Beth from The Stories from A to Z featured my Christmas mantel from last year, and I got all sentimental.
Am I wrong for painting that beast?  I really did love how the fireplace/mantel turned out last Christmas, but the rest of the year I think "I hate that brick" every. single. time. I walk into the room.

So I've slopped paint on every. single. one. of those bricks 3 times this week.  Yikes.
Remember I tried this?

Weeeeeeelll, the next morning I decided I couldn't abide the grey grout or even a leeeetle bit of orange/salmon/pink brick showing thru.

So, at one point it looked like this as I tried to decide what look I liked best:

On the left the grout is painted white with the bricks RL Canvas Natural.  On the right I painted the grout AND the brick the RL.  The bottom is RL brick and had started painting the grout white.  Isn't it weird how the Canvas Natural looks so different on the top and below the shelf?

And how 'bout that mirror, eh?

Anyway, tonight I have a solid white fireplace, bricks and grout, awaiting a light rolling of the Canvas Natural.
I want the pretty texture on the brick to stand out a wee bit, so hopefully the white will be just subtle enough to contrast with the beige.
If it doesn't work, then I'll go with the look up there on the left: white grout, beige brick.
That was my family's favorite anyway.

Tomorrow we begin the great beadboard wallpaper treatment on the ceiling....trim Saturday and Sunday.

Oh yeah, I"ll be drawing a winner of the Giveaway tomorrow night.

Your mantle was beautiful last year but I think I'm going to like it better as painted brick! I wanted to do that in our last house but never got up the courage!

It's kind of interesting how that paint color can look different like that... hmmm....

Looking forward to the finished project!

Cindy,

You are a brave woman. I love it! The couple that lived in the Fairfield House before us had a love for sage green and painted every piece of my thick substantial molding and fireplaces. I am going to paint over it after the holidays.

Your Friend,
Deborah

You mentioned sparkly nuts in your last post. I done think you went sparkly nuts lady. Love your ambition. You do truly inspire me to work harder on pursuing my vision around here. Keep it up baby. You do know if we were able to procreate - you and I - we'd birth the most perfect woman alive. Just sayin.

I like the brick, but the painted version is going to look fabulous too. I think you were in a "can't go wrong" situation, no matter what you did. I'm pretty excited to see the room finished.

Yep, you gotta paint it! I'd be the exact same way. The brick's nice but it needs to be painted. Just like my chairs. Lovely patina on the antique ladderback chairs but ~ um ~ needs to be painted. Sad but true. :) Funny, kindred spirits, huh ~ on the whole craigslist thing!! I was about to shoot MYSELF! Good grief, I'm lucky I have such a tolerant husband!

xo,
Shellagh

p.s. Can't wait to see the beadboard ceiling!!

LOVE the paint choices...the finished product looks great! So I am re-visiting this post for like the 10,000th time b/c we are talking about painting ours. We have a pot-belly stove (black) right in front of it...so I am staying away from plain white b/c I think it would outdate it....like this look. What did you do to get the textured look on each individual brick?? Would love to hear from you...
