Let's party on down.

It's here, so let's get this party going!  Mr. MckLinky is DJ'ing for us down at the bottom.  Add the link to your specific post (not your blog) and be sure to link back here.  You all know this right?  He'll be accepting links thru midnight Monday...which means you still have more than 24 hours to finish up and get it posted.  Have no fear, I'll save some chips and dip for the latecomers,
but I can't promise the adult beverages will last that long.

K, so here's what I started with, my $30 consignment store wooden double rocker, purchased back in mid-summer. With orange velour.  Mmmmm.

I helped her out of her misery by first removing 462,589 staples to get the skirt off, removed the bottom and back cushions, washed her down a couple times with some Liquid Sander and got busy with the following:
  1. Paint: On-hand Rustoleum Canyon Black spraypaint and in the quart...I brushed on the last coat.
  2. Slipcover and skirt (made with drop cloths left from my drape project)
  3. Pillows and covers (from my overflowing stash of inserts and using fabric left from making pillows for the couch in this room).
All made with what I had on hand.  Hurray!

See the zipper behind the spindles?  I'm so daggone proud of myself. :o)

See the piping?  Yeah, I'm proud of that too....BTW, thanks to Creative Little Daisy for her awesome tutorial here.  I spent many an evening with that page up on my screen, screaming at reminding everyone not to touch the computer while I was sewing, following the step-by-meticulous-step instructions...seriously, she's a genius instructor!  I had a bit of trouble with the gussets, but I'm going with The Nester here
...it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.  So there. And anyway, if I ripped out one more seam during this project I would have deleted my entire blog.

The skirt was stapled on underneath with my industrial staple gun.

I think it makes a unique piece for this room, which has no matching furniture as most of it is antique or secondhand.  I did go ahead and cover the back cushion that came with the rocker, but I didn't like that it covered up the entire back. I like the pillow-look better.  What do you think?
I was also going to add tufted buttons on the bottom cushion, but I think I like it better just plain.
Plus it will be easier to remove and wash the cover without them.

I'm sooooo glad to have this project done, just in time for holiday company!
Wait.  That means I'll have to clean.

I actually almost finished 4 other projects that have needed my attention for a long time, and although they are in the final stages, I'll wait for another day to post those.  My cra(p)ft room is looking mucho better.
Kinda.

Alrighty....your turn.  Show me what 'cha got conquered.  Remember you are automatically entered in the door prize drawing just for linking up, and if you advertised on your blog using my button, you get a second chance.  The winner gets their choice of 3 bars of my handmade soap in their choice of scents.

I'll draw the winner's name Tuesday and post it with some highlights from the party that afternoon.
Of course I love joining up with all the other parties during the week, especially since I didn't get to play much last week.  I'm having withdrawl symptoms.
Monday:
Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch
It's So Very Creative at It's So Very Cheri

Oh my, it is beautiful. Such a before and after! I made a cover for a rocking chair once, just the seat part and it was basically an envelope sort of thingy. I thought that was a big deal... now I see what talent is!

Wow! That is a fantastic transformation! I really want to learn how to make zippered pillow covers - it looks like I may have someone who I can bug for advice now! Congrats!

Love it! I adore the pillow back look. I am wowed (completely) by your seamstress abilities here. I hate putting zippers in a wearable garment, much less something like this. There would not have been any hair on my head by the time I finished that! Awesome job! -Tammy

I love that slipcover- wow!

I have my lamp done, but I am tired like, whoa, so I will do up my post tomorrow! :D

Great makeover! I know how sad you were to see that orange fabric go though. I might do a couple other projects too. We'll see....

That bench is TOTALLY AMAZING!!! ...and it did't cost anything because you made it with what you had. You are one talented little decorator, aren't you? I thought that I was following you, but I'm not, so I am going to sign up at this time. I also very much appreciate your mentioning the Boardwalk Bragfest in your blog. I would love to see one of your many beautiful items there. Don't worry -- if you can't decide, bring 'em all! There's no limit and when you've been working as hard as you have, then I think you need to take a break and do a bit of braggin'!

Oh my gosh. Really. It's gorgeous! You so made the right call on the skirt, seat, cusions, fabric, paint colour... you sew too?!? It looks like a high end heirloom piece that is worth a fortune!

My mom use to have a couch that orange colour. She always corrected me saying it was copper but it was orange in my book. Thanks for the memories.. :) and hosting the party!

Wowzers! You really took on a big project, Cindy, (Zuzu typed while going over to her blog to delete her 4-dinky-project post)

Zippers? Amazing. Beautiful. And the best part is that your Holiday guests will be so impressed that they will never notice that you didn't clean the house. :)

Thanks for getting us together. I had fun and now have four new red accents in my tiny cottage. Sweet! Now I'm off to visit everyone and see what they made...

Hi there,
I'm so glad you came by! I've seen this type of furniture out in the thrift store/yard sale world, but never knew what to do with them. Your's is gorgeous! I had to laugh when you mentioned the STAPLES!!!! I think that's the expensive part of reupholstering. I HATE that part. Your blog is filled with ideas and links to parties. I'm so in the dark about all of this. I need to get out more. Oh just to have a whole day to sit and read blogs. Anyway, your cushion turned out perfect. I have a detailed 2nd part to the cushion/zipper and cording post, almost ready to go out. Look for it. You can get even more ideas.
