When I finally set my mind to painting furniture to sell, I sent out a shout out to friends and family requesting any old cast off furniture which I could use to brush up (literally) my painting skills.
And that's how I met Elizabeth.
She was in terrible need of a makeover. She was very sad with peeling veneer, children's names etched in her top, and a not-quite-finished stripping job.
So I went to work sanding, filling scratches (and names), and peeled off the veneer on her sides and on her drawers and added some textured vintage-look wallpaper.
She was outright giddy when I let her pose in front of the three-way mirror.
I used Annie Sloan Duck Egg and Coco, sprayed her original hardware with Oil Rubbed Bronze, and waxed her with Maison Blanche clear wax. Over the wallpaper I used polyacrylic.
I also lined her innards with some fabric.
I think she's divine all done up in her new duds.
Elizabeth is taking up more than her fair share of space in The Serendipity House, so any locals interested can give me a shout.
In the meantime, I'll be hauling her around to my favorite parties. List of linkies show up when she shows up.

She is gorgeous now, Cindy. I LOVE the color and the textured wallpaper is a great idea. I have used it in small doses on old furniture, too, but not the embossed stuff. That is such a good idea-I just used flat wallpaper. You is so smarrrrrttttt....lol yes-I know it is you ARE so smart but I like IS in this instance- xo Diana
I love her. The wallpaper? A divine choice!
I usually make a face or say a few choice words when I see painted waterfall furniture...I once saw a sad, sad dresser at the Goodwill that some nincompoop covered with SAND TEXTURE on top of an ugly pain job. I think I shed a tear for that poor dresser. It was just shy of abuse if you ask me.
Anyway, your little Elizabeth is definitely the product of a loving home. :)

I'm not usually a fan of the "waterfall" style but I love how you did this! And the cherry on top is the fabric inside... I've been meaning to do that on a piece for a bit maybe this will get me moving on it!

I'm a big fan of Duck Egg blue but what I really love is the wallpaper!!
Such a beautiful makeover. The color is so fresh and the textured wallpaper is simply divine. I wouldn't have thought to use that on a dresser, but it's one of the prettiest treatments I've seen!

What a good job you did! Using the wallpaper for texture was a great idea. I did that in the absence of a backboard in my kitchen.
