Dreamin' of a White Christmas (tree)

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Woe's me.

I found a perfect, fluffy little 4 foot white pre-lit tree at my favorite thrift shop the other night while out with hubs and my boys.

Hubs and I had a bit of a disagreement about getting it....he said we didn't have room.
I never see this as a problem.  Ever.

So we playfully went back and forth for a bit, then I decided to let it drop.

It so happened that the sales people working that night were an older couple from our church
(it's a Mennonite Central Committee Dove's Nest Thrift)...

...and I was kinda embarrassed about disagreeing in front of them.

Anyway, later that night I said I really did want that tree 'cause I'd been oogling them on the blogs this year.

Hubs apologized, not knowing how much I really wanted it, and said we could go back and get it.

  But, they had already closed.

No problem, thought I.  I had to be back over there the next day.
You know where this is going, right?

Well, I ended up having to go into jury duty first thing the next morning, then to 2 funeral viewings before I could get back to the thrift.

When I arrived, there it sat in all it's twinkling goodness.

I walked up to the sales lady and said "I'll be taking THAT."

Saleslady says, "Oh, I'm sorry.  It just sold about 10 minutes ago.
The lady is coming back with her van to pick it up."

Ayup.
Now I know it was just a dumb arty-feeshal tree, and it shouldn't have bothered me as much as it did.

But, dear readers, I went out to my car and cried like a baby.

I obviously have WAAAAY too much stress in my life right now.
When a plastic Christmas tree can make me lose it, I know things just ain't right in my life.

So today, I went to every big box and thrift store I could find,
and there was not a single white tree to be had.
 Not a one.

Oh, except for Wally's Place.  But after falling for the full, fluffy wee one at the thrift,
theirs was akin to a skeleton (with a Colts hat on top.)  *sigh*

Online, they are pricey, and not guaranteed for Christmas unless ya shell out for faster shipping.

So, I guess I will just have to enjoy all the other white trees out there in blogland this year,
and hope I can get one next year.

In the meantime, I'm upping my meds.....

Who else is completely overwhelmed by the gorgeousness out there in blogland as it decks its halls?  Amazing creativity and beauty.  The decor mags have gotta be shakin' in their Santa boots knowing how easy it now is to browse utterly magical homes for free.  Shakin' I tell ya.

So here are some of my faves so far this year....I will hopefully do this next week too.

This girl is livin' the life in merry old England.  Fanstastic Blog.

Becky has style coming out her burlap buckets.  I drool over every post.

Deb's cottage is a dream in browns and aquas with the perfect pops of red for the holidays.

Sarah is a blogger after my own heart.  Love her humor and her style.  Her stocking has made the rounds on all the A-list blogs this season.

Michelle's blog is a plethora of inspiration....

I love all of Lisa's DIY projects.  Tons of Christmas goodness this year!

Country Cottage White Goodness.  Every post.

Nita has amazing style with a whimsical touch.  Perfect for the holidays.

Yep.  New blogger.  Yep.

Tammy's blog is full of creativity and vintage style.  Vignettes to die for.

Basically love all her vintagey goodness.  We've established that we'd be besties if we lived closer.

I'm still making the rounds at all the holiday parties.  I've saved tons of pics in my inspiration files.  I will need 4 houses to decorate next year.  This is a problem.

Christmas at the Daughter's Apartment.

PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday we made a drive down the road to my 19 yo daughter's apartment.
I had JUST picked up my new camera (Canon SX130is) that morning,
and while Hubs helped her hang some stuff,
I went around and clicked.

She's used quite a bit of my unused holiday decor...mostly the reds.  And she got herself a tree :)

I think she did a great job hanging my old ornaments....

And using her imagination to make ornaments out of non-ornaments, like this berry pick:

All her living and dining furniture came from our house.  She's got in on loan :)

Trying a little macro.....haven't nailed that yet :)

She wanted a coffee filter wreath too, so we made this together.  We used a large form and mini-size filters.

I painted the tin stars and made the mini garland last year....
she draped them over this mirror thing I painted from Hobby Lobby.

Here's a shot of her kitchen.  Notice I edited out the dirty dishes!  We painted in here (as well as the family/dining area), and changed out the knobs from big bulky (filthy) pulls.  Chalkboard and Christmas countdown from her mama too :)

This is Kristen's room....she made that entire collage herself by sticking up a huge plastic tarp and adding pictures one by one.  Her room is cute when it's clean....

Here's the collage she made for the main room.
It's supposed to be a tree shape, but the joke is that it looks like a woman bending over :)

Her tv stand is the oak dresser I had been using in my bedroom.  The chair is also mine.
Cheap storage, these adult children's apartments...

These were IKEA towels I stenciled last year.

This is her couch wall, but I couldn't show you that because, well, there was someone sleeping on it...
she painted this 70's lamp black.  The pic is Kristen and her man Kelly...they're goofballs.
Not sure where she gets it.

Totally love how she draped these faux berries over her windows.

Her stocking I made a few years back with felt and ric-rac and such.

There ya have it.  Sometime when it's cleaned up I'll do a proper tour for ya.
It's all stuff you've seen before, though, since it all came from my place :)

I must say I'm enjoying the camera, even though I need to practice with the flash, exposure and other settings.  It takes way better pics right out of the gate than my last canon.

OH! and sorry about Mi4M....I figgered with all the dandy Christmas parties going on, I'd take a week off.
Speaking of which, I linked up with Courtney @ FRENCH COUNTRY COTTAGE for her Feathered Nest Friday Linky and Donna @ Funky Junk Interiors SNS-Full Home Christmas Reveals!
