Sharing the love: the shutter bug.

Raise your hand if you love old shutters (and old windows for that matter, which I also have, but haven't decided what I'll do with them)?  On a recent antique jaunt, I picked up a beauty, eh.  Seriously, you're just gonna (fill in the blank) when you see this.

I mean, look at the color!  It's like a green-y, blue-y, gray-y shade of chippy goodness.  All weathered and worn with a story to tell.  Wish I knew it.

See the rusty hinges?  I think I would've loved the house this old shutter adorned.  What color do you think that house might have been?  A pristine white farmhouse maybe?  Or a gray-beige Nantucket cape cod?  Or how 'bout a terracotta beach bungalow?   That color of lusciousness would compliment so many shades of loveliness, don't you agree?

In my house, I think I shall hang it on the horizontal above my aqua couch in the living room, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite rooms in the house.  With it's mistinted grey/natural walls, white painted furniture,  drop cloth drapes, and pops of aqua.  After the holidays I will be adding some finishing touches to my living/computer room as I finally found my inspiration, beginning with this ravishingly beautiful shutter, a pair of my great gramma's rose-strewn plates and matching chippy pitcher.

Gorgeousness.

Are ya feeling it?

Stay tuned....

  7. Feeling it and wanting it are blending in to the point of confusion! Man that was a great find! I'd be running from one end of the house to the other lugging it around, giddy like.

Have fun with that one! Can't wait to see the final photo shoot. :)

  8. Is it OK to be jealous? HAHA I am looking for two shutters to go on each side of a huge wooden patchwork art wall piece that my husband and I made. (looks like a giant quilt square) So love the folk art feel of shutters! They do speak.. Lucky you to be sure.

  9. That shutter is a beautiful color and will look wonderful above your aqua couch. That would be my favorite spot to curl up with a throw and a good book! Love the little plates and pitcher, very pretty.

  15. I'll tell you one thing, it would take a great deal of effort and time to try and recreate the lovely patina and chippiness of your shutter.
    Great find....drool.....drool.
I think your room is starting to come together in your head and the lovely china pieces are going to play a starring role.
