A makeover.

In a spur of the moment decision, I walked into a Great Clips and had my hair cut.  In fact, I had several hairs cut.  I found myself with a rare few hours to myself (thanks Angie!), and suddenly decided I needed to rid myself of unnecessary weight (wish body weight could be dropped as easily!).  I came out with a flippy little bob that will make my life easier.  I noticed immediately the effect it had on my attitude.  A 'heaviness' lifted emotionally too.  Today I had fun styling and playing.  And I didn't feel a bit guilty.

I also hit the Goodwill clothing racks instead of the home stuff....ok, well, I actually peeked at the home stuff, but decided to focus on the clothing, even though a sah-weet little antique dresser in the corner was whining at me the whole ding dang time.
Got some Ralph Lauren (in the shot above),  J.Jill, J Crew and some Talbots.
All in my Type 1 chromas!

It was a nice feeling to spend a bit of time and money on myself.  Epecially now.  I spend tons of time and money on my house, but rarely on myself since struggle with feeling overweight and ugly a lot of the time.
Maybe some of you have noticed this blinky button over on my sidebar?  (how's that for a smooth transition?) I wrote about the Energy/Beauty Profiling  last spring in this post,
but  I want to be up front about why that link is there now.....

For those who have taken one of Carol's Profiling courses, she offers an affiliate link/button to share the program with others.  I get a bit of compensation if someone decides to purchase any of the courses.  BUT,  it's not a home business, not a multi-level marketing scheme, not anything other than a way for Carol (the creator of the system) to thank the many women who have had such positive experiences with Living and Dressing Your Truth when they share with others.  Of course spreading the word builds her business, but Carol is passionate (and has been for many years) about helping women discover who they are, and has developed what I consider amazing tools to do so.
Plus, I think every person is worth compensation for the work they do.

Since I'm really turned off by marketing schemes myself, I just wanted to explain why that button is there.  It's kinda like having blog sponsors I suppose.  Except instead of me getting money for putting the button up, I get a discount at the DYT store online if someone purchases something from the site.   I hope to see her reach as many people as she can thru these buttons in the blogsphere and forums...BUT if you're uncomfortable using an affiliate button, you can just go directly to the site here:

Living Your Truth

DYT on TV

It's had such a profound impact on my life (and my decorating!), and just re-reading that post I wrote last spring has reminded me again how freeing it is to really understand yourself in the scheme of creation. There's just no way I would handle what the coming year will bring regarding my mama if I didn't have these tools in my life.  I'm grateful I found them when I did.

Anyway, I will blab a lot about it on my other blog I mentioned before.  There's lots of info and links over there.  Her system and T-Tapp (with a generous dose of Geneen Roth's work) are the 'friends' that are helping me grasp my goal of wholeness.  They will be some weighty anchors to keep me afloat
during this next wacky season of life.

One last caveat:  Carol's spirituality is what many consider 'new age'.  So is Geneen's.  I don't happen to agree with that type of theology, but I do believe the wisdom these women have is worth a look anyway.  I can only say I was blind, but now I see.  Thru Living and Dressing my truth, I have reignited my spirituality (which had been dying a slow death) and connected again with God's goodness and love.

Ok, ok. Enough of that.  How 'bout a few random shots of my de-glitterfied mantel?
I just threw all my bottles up thar to reflect in my mirror.

In the next couple days, I hope to fiddle around with the fireplace some more, and get it comfy and cozy for the coming winter months.  I think I need some sticks.  Or some dried pods.
Or some little debbies.

Lastly, THANK YOU ALL for the many, many generous and kind words about my mom's condition.  So many have shared their stories, their heartaches, their victories!  I forwarded them on to my mama, and she was encouraged to know so many lovely women were keeping her and my dad in their thoughts and prayers.

  1. Cindy-Bob you look great! (Yes, I'm smiling!) I am exactly like you. So easy for me to buy for others and the house but rarely splurge on myself.

Sending you positive energy, prayers and lots of love,

  2. Flippy cute and gosh darn adorable.
Look how your eyes just sparkle now!

We hear it over and over about caring for ourselves, but it is so damn hard for most of us women of a certain age to do.

Keep it going girl! You look so pretty.

  10. I didn't think that you could get any cuter but that hair cut is cah-yoot! Wowzer do you ever look great! I love those flippy little haircuts and if I wasn't carrying 30 extra pounds in double chins I might get one. Right now I use the extra hair to wrap around as like a turtleneck to hide them. I don't think I am fooling anyone though. Oh well!

I know you've been going through a lot as of late, and sometimes a new "do" is the perfect pick-me-up! Glad you had some ME time....sometimes we really need that!

Got my hair cut today too....it is short!! And looks nothing like the photo I took in! We'll see how it goes when I get myself ready tomorrow!

  19. I saw the picture before I started reading the post and immediately starting smiling and saying"oh how cute does she look!" Love that little haircut! I'm sorry to hear you struggle with feeling "ugly" some of the time. You look to me like one of the sweetest, most caring people with a great sense of humor. I've never met you in person but I get all of that from your face and your written words. It's a beautiful face.

  21. Your hair looks great. Sometimes it's important to spend a little time and effort on ourselves, so often we are at the bottom of the pile. Lovely smile too by the way.

  23. Well, first of all-your hair cut is amazing...what a difference it makes- I can see it in your eyes and your smile. You look like a million bucks...well...not literally cuz then you would be green and wrinkled...but DARN you look good!

I popped over and watched her clip and she is amazing. I am like you-not New-Age-y at all...but I do think that we can be a whole lot more than we are just by figuring who God wants us to be...and..no I am not gonna "preach it sistah". I just think that He would want us to feel as good about ourselves no matter WHERE we are at with our age or our weight...we are all way too critical of ourselves.

Okay-climbing off that soapbox. Loving the new mantle..looking good, gal, looking good..just like YOU! xxoo Diana

  25. I love your new haircut! And you have gorgeous eyes and a charming smile, too! I need to go spend some time and money on my look too. I would like to look a bit more like the photo of myself that I have on my blog (which is almost 10 years old- shhh-don't tell anyone! haha!) I always spend money on my house instead. And when I go in Goodwill I have a really hard time looking at the clothes because the housewares department is always calling to me!!
    Love your new look!
    Hugs,
    Michelle

  27. Cindy, you look beautiful! I absolutely love your new 'do!! It suits you to a 'T'. One of the best spur of the moment decisions I've seen in a long time! :D

On another note, I read about your mom and started to leave a comment, but didn't know what to say since there truly are no words. Plus I'm good at putting my foot in my mouth. Even via keyboard. ;)

It will be two years on the 15th of January that my grandpa died of lung cancer. Yes, he smoked. *I know that's bad and his doing, and not quite the same as your mom, but loss is loss. I miss him lots.

*(See? I hope that translates in the way I anticipated it; not in a harsh way!!)

I wish for only the best for your mom & dad, you and your family...keep your head up and love her all you can.

    Love,
    Kori

  45. You look marvelous. Absolutely marvelous.

Funny thing: I got the best haircut of my life the week that my mother was dying. Your mother is not at that point, and I am very glad about that, but you are at a point when you really need a little lift for yourself. I get that. There's only so much heaviness you can take, and sometimes something that might at other times seem superficial can really make a big difference on a very deep level.

All that rambling to say GOOD FOR YOU.
