The Teen Room Big Reveal.

I got ‘er  (mostly) done in time.  If you want the background info on this room re-do for my daughter, read this post.  Before I get to the actual reveal, how about some before shots?  I'm warning you: Scary plain. It was basically a storage space for the previous owners.

What I did:
The bed…canopy made from IKEA netted sheers and some white twinkle lights from Big Lots’ Christmas section.  I basically just picked up two cheap brassy gold rods, sprayed them white, then attached them to the wall.  The one on the angled part is resting in white cup hooks.  I just used the hardware that came with the rods for the lower one as the sheers just drop down behind them. Green bedding (sale) and purple bird pillowcases (clearance) from Target.  Cheesy bedskirt from Walmart. I’ll be adding some kind of trim to lengthen it. Duvet sewn by me from twin sheets we used for the whole color scheme. Side table is an old sewing table we cut down and painted white. Rug from Target.

What I did: 
Sheers, rod and fushia-now-painted-white standing lamp from Walmart.  Wall cubes from Target.  Grace liked similar ones from PB.  I liked Target’s price better.

What I did:
Desk was found at my new favorite used furniture store.  Typical 80’s stained wood, I painted it white.  Chair came with another desk set I got on craigslist.  Recovered the seat and made a wee slip for the back to cover some nasty vinyl. Bookshelves I had, just painted them white.  Clock was a $3 Target snag.



Vinyl thingy from Dollar Tree.  Chalkboard…which was a cabinet door from the ReStore in a previous life..was taken from the downstairs schoolroom and repainted with white trim.  I also redid the chalkboard paint.  I’d previously used the spray kind, but this time I rolled it on using the kind in a can.  MUCH better, I must say.

Lamp was a Goodwill find, shade from Target.  Bamboo placemat (on dresser and nightstand too) was in the dollar bins at JoAnns.  Aqua utensil holder is from Target.  I had the shelves…Also pinched a couple of the mini metal buckets from my blog sale to hold desk supplies.  Painted the black metal cross below in a pale purple and added the ribbon I already had in my stash....

Gracie is really into family and friends, and loves pictures.  Here are all her family members framed on top of her favorite books.  I painted a couple of these frames to coordinate with the room.

Just to the right of the door AFTER:

What I did:
Dresser was found on a for sale board at hubby’s work.  I painted it up, then ordered new ORB pulls on Ebay.  The screws weren’t long enough, so hubs used ones he had….then ran out.  Nice.  Situation will be rectified promply. Candlestick and hangy thing were in my blog sale, so I pinched them and painted ‘em blue.  Two tall green bottles are beer bottles. :)

Other Details:

I made the bulletin board.  Just bought a $15 black plastic poster frame from Walmart.  Removed the glass (which wasn’t actually glass).  Used some spray adhesive to add a piece of the sheeting I used for her duvet.  Painted the frame white.  Painted the words--$2 ea at JoAnns.  Stuck everything up with the happy green thumbtacks and some matching mini clips, all found on clearance at Walmart. Used those Command Strips everyone is talking about in blogland, and so far so good.



Here is the Goals Poster my oldest daughter helped Gracie make one evening when she was particularly down.  Click to enlarge it so’s you can read all the awesome stuff they came up with.

Next to her closet are hooks to hang purses and scarves and such.
Here’s her closet door again.  She can’t turn anywhere in her room without seeing positive, encouraging and happy colors, pictures and words.    I sprayed these petite clothespins, then hotglued them to the edges.  I want her to have lots of places to stick favorite pictures.  That’d be me in my skinny phase.  ‘94, Dallas TX.Close up of the second Inspiration poster she made a while back.  Lots of pictures of friends and family.     These clear stickers were in the scrapbooking section at JoAnns.  I stuck ‘em every which where.  This one is on top of the closet mirror.

‘Nother view of the bed.  The lamp on the nightstand was a second spray painted Goodwill find.  I tied some lavender netting on it.  Like you do. These plastic princesses were part of her Princess Sweet 16 party in the spring.  We’re big Disney people anyway.  Love me some plastic Disney chicks.  The bottles were from a trip to IKEA as were the fake flowers I believe. Pretty view.  You can see some more of the clear stickers stuck round about.             I told you…she can’t do nothin’ in her room with out seeing encouraging words and happy stuff.

The collage over her nightstand was made by a friend.  Wasn’t it nice of her to use the right colors?  The wee ribbon on the faux drawer matches the one I used to tie the little cross to her desk lamp.  You can just barely see the big ‘G’ I blinged up and hung.  But just below you’ll get a great view along with my daughter’s reaction I caught on video when she first saw her room. (Great idea Donna!)





There's still the cottage cheese ceiling, atrocious ceiling light, nasty carpet and dated antique brass doorknobs....but ya know?  Ya do what you can with a limited budget.
Thanks for all the sweet words on yesterday’s post.  When you’re in the midst of slogging, you kinda tend to forget all the stuff you’re doing RIGHT.  Most days I just feel exhausted and ready to throw in the towel :)
