I jumped on the bandwagon recently regarding DCD....you know, Drop Cloth Drapes.
Made my way to Home Depot and picked up 2 6X9 canvas cloths, took them home and washed them.
One turned a lighter shade. OKAY...folded one to save in my fabric stash and headed back to HD.
Got two more. Washed. Both matched (hurray!), folded one and let it cozy with the other misfit in the fabric stash and got onto the business of pressing them and cutting stray threads.
I used wood rings with clips, so NO SEWING. I folded down about, oh I don't know, maybe 6 inches, pressed, and clipped them in the back, making little pleaty things. My pictures aren't the greatest because of the bright light coming in so I took some evening shots too...which I also enhanced. Just go with me here....

Close up of clipped fabric....they really do have great texture, and by chance the color is just about a perfect match to the 'mistint' wall color I put up a few weeks ago.
And just for grins, here's some shots of this room before we moved in. I had to enhance them so you can actually see how horribly boring it was...the previous owners were really into fake plants, specifically sunflowers. And you can catch a glimpse of the fab.u.lous. country wallpaper and border in the hallway. *That* was an adventure taking off.
Ah...much better, no?

Unbelievable how much better the room looks in the after picture...amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe moved into a house where instead of wall paper they glued cork to the walls and then stained it dark walnut. It was like a cave...no kidding just like a cave. I had to scrap the cork off the walls and it took months and months.
Drop cloth drapes! Fantastic! Who would have thought?

Hmmm... I have looked at drop cloths for lots of projects (patio cushion covers and pillows, slipcovers, table cloths, but just never thought of curtains.

I so want to try this! I have such a horrible time hanging drapes. I can never figure out how high to hang the rod. I always end up with too many holes in the wall...any tricks?

Help! I am addicted to DCD now. Table skirt, window treatments and drapes. What else can I do with them? I'm afraid my dh might take a shower one day only to get out and find a DCD instead of a towel. LOL!
