The lines blur within the realm of 'cottage' these days, kinda like 'country' did for many years, and probably how 'farmhouse' will in the future. For my own sake, I began sorting these blogs into categories that seemed to fit their biggest overarching theme so I could quickly find a roughly-specific cottage style for inspiration. These lists are just a smidgeon of what's available, just a taste of what's out there to get you started. For me, this style encompases simplicity and homey comfort, antiques in beautiful wood tones with a piece or two in washed-out or chippy paint, wildflowers in enamel pitchers....*sigh* Throw in some chickens and I'm in farm heaven.

These dwellings exude a fresh but uber calm vibe due to liberal uses of whites, greys and airy pastels. The style pulls a lot from the feminine, romantic 'shabby chic' moniker Rachel Ashwell., but other European cottage styles are included, mainly french and scandinavian. You won't find much clutter, but what items are used for decoration are generally eye catchers like mercury glass candlestick collections, or a crystal chandelier in the loo. In some spaces, elegant white slips on furniture pair with rustic burlap or vintage grain sack pillows. Loverly.

Who doesn't love a beach vacation? These bloggers live the dream, whether they're next to water or not so I call their style 'BEACH COTTAGE'. Full of watery greens and blues, earthy neutrals and beachy elements like shells and weathered wood define this kind of cottage style. It creates a relaxed, calm, and sometimes slightly whimsical environment that brings back memories of favorite summer beaches....
