::My Kids' Kitchen Before and Afters::

UPDATE:  I was contacted by Better Homes and Gardens, and they came for a photo shoot in September 2013.  I will update when it hits the magazine stands, but here's a post I did about the shoot itself:  BH&G Photo Shoot.

I managed to get over to my son's place to snap some pics of the kitchen cabinets I painted.
Yesterday's post details the products I used, how I did it, and what I thought about said products.

I also had my daughter in law send me some before pics....and though they still have some other DIY projects left for this space, I couldn't resist posting some *almost* afters.....ready?

Same view now with hubs helping my son put up blinds and my DIL painting shelves in the family room beyond...anyone not convinced of the power of paint to transform a space should be picking up their jaw (you're slobbering):

Another before view:

Similar view after:

They painted the accent wall in the dining room the same color (Ben Moore's Deep Space) as the lower cabs. I know.  All kinds of awesome.

Last before view:

Same view after (with one of the the new blinds--hurray for helpful hubbies!):

I need to show you the finish on these babies up close.  Here's the gray on the bottom....

See how smooth?

Here's the white up close and personal:

Not a brush or roller mark any ding dang where.

Again, if you want to know the products I used, read yesterday's post.

Other stuff they plan to do in the next month (and I promise to take pictures again!):
~Add a subway tile backsplash with grey grout--Woot! (and new white electrical outlets)
~Cool valance for over the sink window (which will have the same wood blinds they've put in the other window)
~Put the matching hardware on the upper cabs
~Paint the pantry doors either white or grey...they're still deciding :)
~New modern light fixtures...they've picked this one from IKEA for over the table, and still hunting for something similar to replace the pendants over the peninsula:

And she's on the lookout for some vintage Jadite pieces to mix in with her live plants :)

Couple more beauty shots:

With the under cab and can lights on:

Natural light and Andrea:

She seems happy with her new kitchen and anxious to finish up the last few items to make the space hers.  She's got some great ::cottage instincts::, eh?   I've had such fun helping her bring her vision into reality.

EDIT:  Here's a shot with the new subway tile!  Loving that gray grout!

I'll do more before and afters from their new home as they finish off their spaces.
Partying at:

My jaw did a serious drop. I don't drop my jaw easily because we have all looked at 100s no 1000s of rooms but this really caught my attention. It is just gorgeous. What an amazing update. The paint job looks flawless. I am visiting from The Shabby Creek Cottage and now following. Have a great weekend!

So glad to see you back in the blogging saddle, Cindy! Your daughter's kitchen looks awesome. Could you please come paint some cupboards at my house? Pretty please?? I'll buy you as many Little Debbies as you can eat! :)

Looks great! I know how hard it is to paint cabinets. I did mine a couple years ago in similar colors. The base cabinets are a brown-black and the tops are pearl white. I had the yucky old oak cabinets. Good job and a pat on the back...Cindy @ sunsetcoasting.blogspot.com

Visiting from TDC - a great job! I aimed for the exact same color scheme for my kitchen - I'm very curious whether you started from the same inspiration photo that I did: http://www.houzz.com/photos/20363/Gast-Architects--Projects-traditional-kitchen-san-francisco. Well, that was my practical inspiration. This was the, er, spiritual one: http://www.houzz.com/photos/22857/grey-kitchen-traditional--boston. I was looking for that perfect super-dark-gray-that-could-almost-be-blue. I settled on Behr's Marine Magic, and while I am happy with how it turned out (here, if you'd like to see: http://justbeinginfertile.blogspot.com/2013/02/smile-tim-smile.html), I think your Deep Space hit a lot closer to the mark. Beautiful work!

This is so awesome. And I LOVE the colour of the bottom cabinets. What a huge improvement (not that if was bad before), I just think it looks amazing now (and not like every other house out there).

A nice paint job could do a lot about the appearance of a particular room. They could make things, such as cabinets, look good as new. The new kitchen looks fantastic! The choice of paint color for the cabinets, which occupies a big space in the kitchen, complements your lighting. A kitchen is suppose to look clean all the time and the brightness of the room helped to achieve a neat look.

Thank you so much for posting, I love love the colors. Can you please tell me what brand and name of the colors you used for the cabinets! Thank you, I am so doing this to my kitchen!

Digging the white/black division! Normally I’d see black cabinets on white walls or vice versa, but never both on the cabinets! And it’s great that the cabinets aren’t that glossy so as not to outshine the black marble countertops.
