PSSSST...I'm no longer blogging here!
You can now find me at

Let's first take a walk down memory lane, shall we?
Here is the family room on inspection day....note lovely orange beams.
Previous owners loved the dark 80's version of country.
Blurry pic, but you get the idea.
One week after moving in...silly kids, but good before shot of the fireplace.
Same day, looking in from the nook. Cave.
Are ya ready for the AFTER?
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Ta da!
The room now feels HUGE, airy and bright!
Beadboard ceiling and chandy (gonna put shades on I think).
Just left of the fireplace...
Looking in from the kitchen nook.
The view from my couch....sigh.
Here's a closeup of the paint treatment I used on the brick.
We'll be putting more of that same trim and a beefy crown molding under the mantel tomorrow.
My hubs worked sooooo hard getting the room put back together before company came for turkey.
I put the last coat of paint on the trim this morning,
and he was still wiring the lights an hour before my folks arrived!
My youngest 4 are pretty darn excited about it too :)
Oh, and I finished my banner, see?
Recognize that shelf? It was in the first 'before' picture waaaaay up thar.
I'm thrilled with how the familyroom turned out, and can't wait to start decorating the room for Christmas....

Your fireplace is gorgeous and the room looks so much bigger now. I love the banner too.
ReplyDeleteIT LOOKS AMAZING!!! Emphasis on the AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteOh girl..you got it going on in there now!! HOW BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeleteI had a yearnin' for a lighter and brighter kitchen...now I have it! {almost!} I MUST get rid of the box lighting above the island, but man, is that ever givin' me fits b/c the builder installed it offset from middle. Meaning..it will not hang center of the center island. To have that happen, hubby will need to patch holds (like 4" holes!!) and move it all over. I'm in a quandry!!
IT looks MAHVELOUS DAHLING!!
What a great makeover!! Great job.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.
Oh my Good Grief! This is absolutely a miracle...ya'll really outdid yourselves :) My hubby will be seeing these pics, and we will be painting our fireplace hearth real soon. THANKS for the inspiration. Not to mention popcorn ceiling redo- it's just stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou must be so proud.
Blessings,
Becky C
All I can say is "wow"!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference! I love a beadboard ceiling, I have plans to do this in my basement. The fireplace is just stunning!
ReplyDelete~Danylle
What a transformation! You (and your crew!) did an incredible job.
ReplyDeleteOh Cindy, how gorgeous! You have done a wonderful job transforming your space. So pretty and I love the mirror you chose for over the fireplace.
ReplyDeletehugs
Sissie
Fantastic job - your fireplace looks soooo much better and the whole room looks lighter!
ReplyDeleteIt looks phenomenal! Great job everybody ;o)
ReplyDeleteWOW, WOW, WOW!! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteCindy! HOLY COW! (We say that a lot in Wisconsin). If I didn't know it I would swear it wasn't the same room/house! It looks amazing- make that AMAZING! It sure was worth all the hard work it took to make it that way now that it is done.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful family gathering. Can't wait to see what you do for Christmas!! Hugs my friend, Diana
You did good girl. It looks amazing..now start decorating for Christmas and make that room sparkle.
ReplyDeletetammy
Cindy, the beadboard ceiling and the fireplace and the banners all look fantastic! I had the popcorn ceiling taken out of our bathrooms. Not doin' that again! I had respiratory infections for a month. I'll be putting the beadboard or something like it up when I do the rest of the ceilings. Can't wait to see your cozy and light spot all decked out for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
It looks great Cindy! I normally like "regular" brick fireplaces, but yours was such a huge expanse of brick, I can see how it would darken the room, I really like it now! And that bead board ceiling... Ahh!
ReplyDeleteTania
that is amazing! How you transformed that from dark to fabulous light was super. The room is so inviting now. Your hard work paid off and you have a beautiful room to enjoy. Peggy fro PA
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Love the paint treatment on the bricks. That was a great decision to paint them. I know that beadboard ceiling was work but it sure paid off! It's one of my favorite things in there. Amazing transformation!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful transformation! It looks stunning. Kudos to you and your hubby! Was there a reason you used the bead board wall paper over the paneling? (Seems like so much more work!) Can't tell it's not 'real'!
Looking forward to seeing it decorated for Christmas. Thank you for the inspiration.
Your Friend,
Deborah
What an amazing transformation. You did an excellent job, I now it was well worth all of your efforts! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love how the fireplace turned out. The whole room looks good. I love the look of painted paneling. I've been trying to get a friend of mine to paint her paneling for ages. She has a fireplace just like your's and every time I'm over there...I wish I could grab a paint brush and paint it.
ReplyDeleteShe likes it all dark though...ugh....
Gorgeous paint job! The beadboard wallpaper turned out incredible on the ceiling. So impressed!
ReplyDeleteNow this is what I call a transformation!!
ReplyDeleteCindy it is not the same room at all. What an amazing change. Filled with light, beauty and all the result of your hard work (you and hubs.) BRAVO!

Hi Cindy~ your fireplace looks just beautiful! I love the new lighter look~the mirror is fabulous and the banner is so sweet! I love the whole look of the room~ you guys did a fantastic job!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic! You did such a super job on the bricks~it's not even the same fireplace!
ReplyDeleteThe ceiling looks amazing, too. I want to do that somewhere. OK, I"m lying. I someone to do that on one of my ceilings FOR me. On all of my ceilings. It's all really pretty, Cindy.
I'm dying to know exacty how you did your fireplace and what specific colors you used. I have a fireplace that is almost identical to yours and I've been wanting to paint it since we moved in. I just haven't been brave enough to. But, if I can make mine look similar to yours I'll do it! Pray do tell your secrets! :-)
ReplyDeleteI *LOVE* it...so much better! But what I really love is the telling of the ceiling wallpaper adventure (been there...)...have a great weekend...looking forward to the next project!
ReplyDeleteRene
Is that the same room?!? Holey beadboard...
ReplyDeleteFantabulous!! That ceiling?!? Is it as awesome in real life as it appears in the pics? It's honestly outstanding. WANT!!!!!
The entire room is so happy and bright. Kudos on such a big AND wonderful job! You must just be beside yourself on this one!
Donna

WOW! What a transformation!!!! It is simply amazing! Thanks so much for linking up to Thrilling Thursday @ Paisley Passions. Hope you stop by again soon :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! It is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh you talented little cutie patootie! Love love love what you did! It's gorgeous! Like it so much better than the brick before.
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you are coming to MI. I may have a kid or two in tow but I will be there!
What you all have done with the ceiling, paneling and fireplace -- it does not look like the same house. (In a good way!) I once painted a brick fireplace in another house, and it in no way compared to what you have done here. I like it!
ReplyDeleteCindy that is AMAZING!!! You guys worked so hard and you did a gorgeous job! PLEASE tell me how you did the beadboard on the ceiling. Also, maybe a tutorial or the steps to the painted brick? I know that's more work for you, but there are ugly fireplaces around the world that need your help! JenT
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! What a transformation :-)

ReplyDeleteI was especially appreciative of the post you did on your bead board ceiling. Love that paper, but not that brave yet!

ReplyDeleteWill you please give details about what you did to your brick? I have an entire WALL of red brick behind the fireplace in my lovely sand and blue beach-themed living room, and what you've done to the brick is exactly what I'd like to do to mine. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this picture on Pinterest and had to comment on the fireplace. It is really grand! Would you share what process you used on it? It would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThe fireplace looks amazing! I also have the dreaded popcorn ceiling and desperately want to get rid of it. Will probably have it tested to see if it has asbestos in it before I start scraping it off! Did you use beadboard paper or paneling to cover the ceiling? Did the ceiling have to be scraped first? This is my first time visit to your blog and I can't find any tutorials though I've been searching.
ReplyDeleteThe transformation is amazing! You have totally inspired me. I am so thrilled i found this blog post. Thank you so much for sharing. and a BIG KUDOS to you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty fireplace. Just gorgeous and light and bright! Nice work. I absolutely LOVE your banners. I keep seeing these and saying I want to make one. The Gobble Gobble is precious! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks SO. MUCH. DIFFERENT. And you were smart to use that handy popcorn removal tool, since the mess is really the worst part. Thanks so much for sharing the link. Loved this before & after!
